Choose a person of influence and design a typeface based on their work, character or unique aspects about them. For this project, I chose IM. Pei, a Chinese American architect known for several famous buildings around the world, most notably the Louvre pyramid that rest in the main entrance of the Louvre Museum in Paris, France. Based on repeating use of the triangle form, I made a typeface based on 90º and 45º angles. What resulted was a very systematic approach to the design, the same as in architecture, where I set some constraints and designed within those set rules. I designed and followed a square grid broken down into triangles as the basis for my type form. The type is called Modernist, based on IM Pei's affinity to modern architecture and cubist themes.
